Description
From the late 1970s onwards, Pierre Paulin developed a series of enveloping forms for Artifort that revolutionized contemporary seating. The “Pumpkin” model, shown here in its 3-seater version produced in the 1980s, perfectly illustrates this pursuit of sculptural comfort, based on organic volumes and continuous lines. Made for Artifort, this sofa combines a flexible structure with upholstery in patinated brown leather , whose folds and tension highlight Paulin’s work on the padding and the concept of a shell.
The leather has a deep, natural hue, consistent with the use and age of the piece, and highly prized by collectors. The overall condition is very good. The leather shows a uniform patina , without tears or sagging, attesting to regular maintenance and careful use. The sofa measures 250 cm in length , 70 cm in height and 80 cm in depth , generous proportions that make it a centerpiece in a living room or reception area. Ideal for a 20th century design collection or a contemporary interior, this “Pumpkin” combines sculptural presence and comfort, faithful to the spirit of Artifort and the vision of Pierre Paulin.
