Description
In the 1980s, Lino Sabattini pursued a demanding formal exploration, inherited from Italian modernism, where metal was worked as an architectural surface and glass as a functional volume. This valet tray is a highly accomplished expression of this. Created in the 1980s, it combines a carefully curved metal structure, with taut and balanced lines, and a perfectly fitted cylindrical container of thick glass. The piece plays on the contrast between the industrial rigor of the metal and the transparency of the glass, in an approach typical of Sabattini’s work.
The condition is very good. The metal has a light and even patina, consistent with its age. The glass is in excellent condition, without chips or cracks. A sculptural and functional object, ideal on a desk, console or coffee table, equally relevant as a catch-all or as a standalone decorative piece.
