Description
A stunning, rare Akari 30P « light sculpture » by Isamu Noguchi (1904 – 1988), marked with red Sun and Moon ideogram (early models), 1971.
Handcrafted by Ozeki & Co. (Gifu, Japan) in washi paper made from the inner bark of the mulberry tree, with bamboo ribbing.
« The gentle light-dispersing quality of the Japanese paper and irregular engulfment of the bamboo framework serves not only as a source of illumination, but also to carve the light with every wrinkle » – Ozeki & Co.
Note that it is not electrified.
Beautiful, rich patina. Some areas have been repaired by a conservator-restorer, specialist of Noguchi, with parts remaining very thin and fragile.
Dimensions: H160 × W50 × D50 cm (H63.0″ × W19.7″ × D19.7″)
