Description
This Nordic landscape painting captures a mountain river rushing through a dramatic rocky gorge, showcasing Swedish artist Gunnar Modin’s (1895-1953) masterful impasto technique. Created with oil paint on panel, layers of thick, textured paint create a sculptural quality that brings the scene to life.
Modin was a local historian, photographer, and painter. Today, his works provide a glimpse into a bygone era. With meticulous attention to detail, he documented people, landscapes, nature, and objects throughout Sweden and Norway during the 1930s and 1940s.
This artwork remains in its original wooden frame with gold liner, and bears a documentation label on the back – evidence of its cataloging during the estate inventory following the artist’s death in 1953.
